Spring Internship 2010

This internship will start the week of February 1 and end in early May 2010.
The League of Women Voters of Oregon is a grassroots, nonpartisan political organization that encourages the informed and active participation of citizens in government in order to build better communities statewide. The state League's purposes are to influence public policy through education and advocacy, and to provide support for League members and the League organization. The state office is located in Salem, Oregon. For more information on the League of Women Voters, please visit www.lwvor.org and www.lwv.org.
Hours: 10–12 hours per week, on 2 or 3 weekdays, to be adapted to intern, office, and legislative schedules. Length of internship is 8 weeks.
Location: Salem, Oregon
Pay: $300 stipend, paid upon completion
Skills needed: Good organization, writing and telephone skills. Good listener. Interested in nonprofit management, history, education, and/or political science. Detail oriented. Familiar with computer programs such as Word, Access, Excel and Dreamweaver.
Position description: The League of Women Voters of Oregon Education Fund needs assistance with several activities this spring: 1) Helping us plan and celebrate our 90th Birthday; 2) Beginning the groundwork for Oregon Student Mock Election; and 3) Developing the best way to reach out to our supporters and gain new supporters, both for monetary and program benefits. In addition, the intern will assist in the LWV office in keeping records, informing members and the public about LWV priorities, and other associated tasks.
The intern's activities may consist of some or all of the following:

Become familiar with the various activities and structure of the League of Women Voters

Help plan and carry out activities for the 90th Birthday celebrations in February and May

Compile and draft a history of the LWV in Oregon from 1995 to the present

Review donation history and contact lists to analyze the most effective way to contact each type of donor

Propose strategies to help engage donors and bring in new donors

Initiate contacts and donations through venues such as Facebook and Twitter
-
Initiate contact with teachers and public officials about the Oregon Student Mock Election and help publicize the Mock Election

Support LWV activities with general office work

Other activities as needed
