Why vote?
Classroom
Law Project is a non-profit
organization spearheaded by educators, lawyers, and civic leaders.
Their projects include:
a. We the People…the
Citizen and the Constitution: student activities focus on the
Constitution and the Bill of Rights.
b. Youth Summit: students research a legal or election issue with
an expert, and then present their findings to parents, teachers,
and classmates.
Rock
the Vote founded in 1990
is a non-profit, non-partisan organization that encourages young
people “to create positive social and political change in
their lives and communities.” Registering over 1.4 million
people for the 2004 elections, Rock the Vote continually strives
to increase the turnout of young voters and encourages them to take
advantage of their “right to vote.”
18-30
Voter Issues Paper
The 18-30 Voter Issues Paper outlines why it is essential for young
people to be involved in our democracy today.

Ben's
Guide to U.S. Government for Kids
is a useful resource containing materials for age groups from preschool
through high school. It is produced and maintained by the U.S.
Government Printing Office.
Why
vote?
1. Employment and Financial Security: Young adults have an unemployment
rate that is 40-50% higher than the national average, and entering
a stable career path is becoming increasingly difficult.
2. Cost of Education: College student debt is on the rise, averaging
$19,000 representing 9% of a young adult’s income. Politicians
need to hear your opinion on college grants and the benefit of
higher education.
3. Health Care: 13 million people between the ages of 18 and 29
have no health insurance. Availability of affordable health care
becomes scarce at age 19 when many are no longer eligible to be
on family plans or government programs.
4. War and The Draft: 80% of the 140,000 Americans in Iraq are
under 35, and the continued burden is falling onto the shoulders
of young volunteers.
5. Ensure your Voting Rights: College students have the right
to vote from their campus residences.
