/ Advocacy / Your Story, Your Voice: Federal Actions / Your Story, Your Voice: Impacts of Federal Actions In Oregon Tell Your Story We are collecting stories from League and community members about how they have been affected by recent federal government actions. These stories will help amplify the personal impact of these issues. Contact Us We Are Asking: League Members: We are seeking stories from current and past League members impacted by federal government actions, including firings, funding cuts, or related policies. Community Members: Individuals from the broader community experiencing similar challenges. We encourage a diverse range of submissions, with an emphasis on personal or community hardships due to these issues. Types of Stories We Seek: Personal Impact: Job Loss or Layoffs: Community members who lost employment due to government budget cuts or workforce reductions. Disrupted Services: Individuals or organizations affected by cuts to federally funded programs or services. Financial Hardship: Families or community members facing economic strain from reductions in government support or services. Creative Solutions or Advocacy: Accounts of how people or groups have worked to overcome these challenges or advocated for change. Criteria for Selection: Relevance: Stories must clearly relate to recent federal actions and demonstrate tangible impacts on the individual or community. Authenticity: We prioritize real, personal narratives that highlight lived experiences. Diversity: We seek a variety of perspectives, especially from marginalized communities or under-resourced areas. How to Submit: Submission Methods: Email: media@lwvor.org Format: Written submissions (max. 500 words) or audio/video (max.2 mins). Story Review and Selection: Screening: Submissions will be reviewed for relevance, clarity, and alignment with selection criteria. Final Selection: Selected stories will be edited for length and clarity, with permission from the submitter. Confidentiality: Personal information will be kept confidential unless express permission is given to share it. How Stories Will Be Used: Selected stories may be featured in League publications, presentations, and other platforms to raise awareness about the impacts of these federal actions. Revenue Reports September 21, 2026 Legislative Report - Week of 9/21 Important news: At this point in time, the state economists think it unlikely that either the personal income kicker or the Corporate kicker will be triggered, but we will not know for sure until the forecast in late May, 2027. Read More June 29, 2026 Legislative Report - Week of 6/29 Although the June forecast presented on May 21st showed a slight increase of $345 million over the previous forecast in February, state chief economist Carl Riccadonna pointed out that this figure reflected the impact of kicker and federal income tax refunds and a transfer of emergency funds. Read More June 16, 2025 Legislative Report - Week of 6/16 Oregon House Bill 2321 seeks to study Oregon’s property tax system, with a focus on Ballot Measures 5 and 50. Ballot measure 5, passed in 1990, set limits on property taxes through a hybrid levy- and rate-based system originally intended to control rapidly increasing property tax costs. This was a departure from the previous property tax system, which relied on tax levies set by each district as a function of specific budget needs. Read More May 19, 2025 Legislative Report - Week of 5/19 The May 14th economic forecast highlights sluggish growth in the U.S. and Oregon economies, with an elevated risk of recession. Oregon’s GDP growth is forecasted to slow to 0.9% in 2025, marking a decline from previous estimates. However, stronger growth is projected for 2027, in anticipation of trade negotiations and a federal tax cut package. Read More May 12, 2025 Legislative Report - Week of 5/12 We are all waiting for the May 14th Revenue Forecast from our State Economist Carl Riccadonna at the Office of Economic Analysis to be presented to the Senate Committee on Finance and Revenue at 8 a.m. The Economist will provide a verbal presentation with slides as well as providing a more complete in-depth report on his view of the world, the U.S. and Oregon’s economic outlook for 2025-27. Read More April 21, 2025 Legislative Report - Week of 4/21 House Bill 3049 (introduced) seeks to modify provisions for corporate excise tax exemptions for businesses operating in economically lagging areas. This bill was discussed during an informational session with the House Revenue Committee on 4/15/25 in response to a request for an interim report on the bill from LRO. Read More April 14, 2025 Legislative Report - Week of 4/14 House Bill 3049 was introduced at the request of Governor Tina Kotek for Oregon Business Development Department. It seeks to modify provisions for corporate excise tax exemptions for businesses operating in economically lagging areas. While this exemption exists in Oregon currently, the program is believed to be underutilized due to complex eligibility calculations. The new bill provides simplified methods to determine eligibility and employee wage requirements, and limits the amount of exemptions that a single business may claim. Read More April 9, 2025 Legislative Report - Week of 4/7 House Bill 2362 aims to implement tiered estate tax exemptions based on the size of the taxable estate. The exemption amount would vary based on the estate's value, and would phase out for larger estates. As a result, this bill would modernize Oregon’s estate tax exemption policy with respect to inflation and appreciation of assets over time. Vouchers are an internal resource for tracking expenses. / Reimbursement / Reimbursement Forms Instructions for Reimbursement Forms Please download the Excel Spreadsheet to fill out the voucher. Expense/Donation Voucher (Excel) After completing the form, it must be e-mailed or delivered to the person who is approving the expense. Please attach all receipts. If it is not possible to scan in receipts for e-mailed reimbursement forms, they may be mailed directly to the office with your name and date of reimbursement form printed on each. The person approving the expense has two options. If approving the expense by e-mail, attach thereimbursement form and scanned receipts, if any, to an e-mail with the following statement in the body of the e-mail: I, (your name) approve payment of the reimbursement form dated (date) for (payee’s name) in the amount of ($ to be paid). If approving the reimbursement form by paper delivery, sign in the approval signature box and include receipts. The reimbursement form may then be submitted with copies going to both the League office and to the treasurer. Reimbursement forms will not be paid without approval. It is very helpful to the treasurer if reimbursement forms are presented for payment in the month that they occur. It is imperative that all reimbursement forms be received before the annual closing of the books on June 30th. Please contact lwvor@lwvor.org with any questions.

PAIGE AXNESS (she/her) PAIGE AXNESS (she/her) Out-of-State Young Voter Registration Ambassador Paige is the LWVOR Out-of-State Young Voter Registration Ambassador who is passionate about reproductive justice and our legal system. Paige attends the University of San Francisco and is double majoring in Politics and Sociology with a double minor in Legal Studies and Dance. She has later plans to attend law school and attain a master's in Social Work. She joins the Youth Council to build effective civic engagement in Oregon and California communities. Paige is a former lead volunteer for YouthLine a Lines of Life peer support crisis line. She is also a member of the 2023 We the People and the Constitution team, placing second in nationals. She served as the former Associated Student Body President and President of Period Club, an organization dedicated to destigmatizing periods and advocating for menstruator product access. Her Period Club chapter pushed forward the Menstrual Dignity Act of 2021, requiring Oregon schools to provide free menstrual products. She is actively involved in the Planned Parenthood: Columbia Willamette Teen Council, a peer education and leadership program where members learn medically accurate and inclusive sexual health information, lead classroom presentations, and organize events in schools and their communities around sexual health awareness. She also conducted similar outreach in middle schools through Oregon’s Department of Human Services. Paige is a former lead volunteer for YouthLine a Lines of Life peer support crisis line. NIVEDITA GIANI (she, her) NIVEDITA GIANI (she, her) Youth Advocacy Chair Nivedita Giani is attending Sunset High School and is a member of the League of Women Voters of Portland. She is passionate about advocating for climate justice, reproductive rights, and workplace equity. She is currently the national delegate for Sunrise PDX, an organization committed to combating climate change. She is actively involved in a local campaign as well as a national campaign to help make public transportation more accessible and widespread. She is a staunch advocate for the Green New Deal due to the prospect of decarbonization and sustainable good paying union jobs for all. Nivi hopes to go to university and then law school to become a human rights lawyer. She is excited to be part of the League of Women Voters of Oregon Youth Council to build effective civic engagement in Oregon communities, get youth involved in politics, and share the importance of making your voice heard. youthadvocacy@lwvor.org
